Nintendo Responds to CES 2025 Switch 2 Leaks
Nintendo has issued an uncommon statement regarding the recent Switch 2 leaks originating from CES 2025. The company confirmed that none of the circulating images are official, as Nintendo is not participating in this year's CES.
This brief comment, while seemingly obvious, is notable for Nintendo's infrequent engagement with product leaks. Rumors and leaks surrounding the Switch 2 have been prevalent since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. Accessory manufacturer Genki's display of a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025 further fueled speculation, with images quickly spreading online.
Nintendo's response, given to the Sankei Shimbun, simply stated that the images and videos of Genki's replica are "not official." The company emphasized its absence from CES 2025, clarifying that any Switch 2 visuals from the show are not official promotional materials.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
While Nintendo didn't comment on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most significant difference from the original Switch is an additional button below the right Joy-Con's home button, labeled "C," with an unknown function. The replica is also reportedly slightly larger than its predecessor.
Genki CEO Eddie Tsai offered further insights, suggesting magnetic Joy-Con attachment and potential mouse functionality for the controllers—claims supported by other sources.
Nintendo previously indicated a Switch 2 reveal within its fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, the company still has time to fulfill this promise. Retail availability is anticipated no earlier than the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
