Hello gaming enthusiasts! Welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024. Today's update features a substantial lineup of new game releases, forming the core of this Thursday's column, as is customary. We'll also explore a noteworthy selection of new sales. Unfortunately, Nintendo Directs aren't a daily occurrence! Let's dive into the games.
Spotlight on New Releases
Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club ($49.99)
The Famicom Detective Club franchise returns after a lengthy hiatus with a new installment. This latest case stays true to the original games' style. Players face a fresh mystery presented in a style reminiscent of the recent Switch remakes. Can you solve the latest string of murders? My review is forthcoming.
Gundam Breaker 4 ($59.99)
Mikhail's comprehensive review provides an in-depth look at Gundam Breaker 4's gameplay and Switch performance. In short, you build and battle Gunplas. While the Switch version naturally lags behind other platforms in performance, it's still a satisfying experience. Read Mikhail's insightful review for the full picture.
Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn ($19.99)
Tengo Project continues its streak of successful remakes with Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn. Unlike their previous 16-bit remakes, this one adapts an 8-bit classic, resulting in a more significant departure from the original. However, fans of classic-style action-platformers will find much to enjoy. My review will be available early next week.
Valfaris: Mecha Therion ($19.99)
A departure from its predecessor, Valfaris: Mecha Therion is a 2.5D side-scrolling shooter. While the genre shift may surprise some, it offers a fun experience. My review is on its way.
Nour: Play With Your Food ($9.99)
I'll admit, I'm not entirely sure what this game entails, but the food visuals are stunning. Is it about food photography, hidden secrets, or something else? Mikhail might be the best person to unravel this one.
Monster Jam Showdown ($49.99)
Fans of monster trucks, this one's for you. Monster Jam Showdown features both local and online multiplayer, various game modes, and while reception on other platforms has been mixed, it might be a welcome addition for fans of the genre.
WitchSpring R ($39.99)
This appears to be a remake of the original WitchSpring, a mobile game often compared to the Atelier series. While the original served its purpose well, this price point is nearing that of a full-fledged Atelier title. Still, it looks like the best WitchSpring game yet.
Depths of Sanity ($19.99)
An underwater exploration game with a fantastical horror twist. You investigate the disappearance of your crew in a vast, perilous underwater world. Combat is involved. This title has earned praise on other platforms and should find a dedicated following on Switch.
Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire ($19.99)
Voltaire, a vegan vampire rebelling against his bloodthirsty father, engages in farming and action to thwart his father's plans. While I'm personally a bit fatigued by this genre currently, it might appeal to those with a different energy level.
Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu ($11.79)
A classic marble roller game with seventy stages, eighty marbles to collect, and hidden items. If you enjoy fast-paced marble rolling, this offers a substantial challenge.
Leo: The Firefighter Cat ($24.99)
A more kid-friendly take on the firefighting game genre. Featuring twenty missions, it aims for a style that might appeal to younger players.
Gori: Cuddly Carnage ($21.99)
A hoverboarding cat slices and dices enemies in this grotesque action game. While the core gameplay is reportedly solid, the Switch version suffers from technical issues impacting the overall experience.
Arcade Archives Finalizer Super Transformation ($7.99)
A 1985 Konami vertical shooter featuring a transforming robot protagonist. A charming post-Xevious title.
EGGCONSOLE Xanadu Scenario II PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)
An early expansion pack featuring the debut work of legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro. Gameplay is similar to the first Xanadu, but more challenging.
The Backrooms: Survival ($10.99)
A blend of horror, survival, and roguelite elements, best experienced with up to ten online players. Solo play caters to a more specific taste.
Can of Wormholes ($19.99)
A clever puzzle game where you, a sentient tin can, solve 100 puzzles involving worms. A refreshing puzzle experience.
Ninja I & II ($9.99)
Two NES-style microgames featuring ninja-themed challenges, ideal for local multiplayer.
Dice Make 10! ($3.99)
A surprisingly engaging puzzle game with two modes: falling blocks and placement puzzles. The goal is to create rows or columns adding up to ten or multiples of ten.
