Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has recently unveiled a new trailer for their eagerly anticipated sci-fi adventure, *The Alters*, which is inching closer to its release date. In this latest update, the studio took a moment to reminisce about one of their landmark projects, the wartime survival game *This War of Mine*, which catapulted them to international fame over a decade ago.
While *This War of Mine* is renowned for its somber and bleak atmosphere, *The Alters* introduces a more vibrant and frequently humorous narrative that revolves around the trials and tribulations of alternate versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite the stark contrast in tone, the developers highlight a deep connection between these two titles.
Though the settings and tones of the games differ significantly, both are anchored in the theme of survival. In *This War of Mine*, players face the brutal realities of war within a besieged city, managing resources and tackling daily challenges to keep their group alive. On the other hand, *The Alters* frames survival as a relentless race against time, where players must continually relocate their mobile base to escape an unforgiving sun that turns everything to dust.
Both games challenge players to step out of their comfort zones, pushing them to explore hostile environments in search of scarce resources. The primary distinction between the two lies in their protagonists: *This War of Mine* has players guiding a group of ordinary civilians, whereas *The Alters* features a unique team made up of alternate versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.
*The Alters* is slated for release in 2025, and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, the game will be accessible on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from launch day, ensuring that a wide audience can dive into this innovative survival experience.
