Tides Of Annihilation Trailer Showcases Fast-Paced Combat
A Sneak Peek Into An Apocalyptic London
First revealed at the recently concluded PlayStation State of Play, the hack-and-slash action-adventure game Tides of Annihilation has sparked significant interest with its newly released extended gameplay trailer. The footage features protagonist Gwendolyn and her sword-transforming companion, Niniane, navigating the ruins of a desolate, otherworldly London ravaged by an Outworld invasion. As they traverse the crumbling streets, they encounter numerous enemies, showcasing Gwendolyn's unique ability to summon over ten legendary knights inspired by King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
After clearing the path of adversaries and further exploration through a magical portal, Gwendolyn and Niniane are drawn into an intense boss fight with Mordred, a character with opposing goals who is determined to thwart Gwendolyn's plans. This battle highlights the game's action-packed combat, underscored by a haunting choir, adding depth to the experience.
According to the game's producer, Kun Fu, featured on the PlayStation.Blog, the battle system is designed to offer "intuitive co-op combat in a single-player experience." Players can summon two spectral knights with distinct combat roles at a time, requiring strategic gameplay based on the situation. "The interplay between Gwendolyn and the knights creates a dynamic, fast-paced, and deeply engaging combat experience. It’s a system that our team (veterans from top game studios) fell in love with during internal playtests," Fu explained.
A Nod To Devil May Cry And Bayonetta
The trailer has garnered positive feedback from the gaming community, with players praising its art direction, style, and the fluid, fast-paced hack-and-slash combat. Many have drawn comparisons to iconic titles like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta, while also noting similarities to Elden Ring, NieR: Automata, Stellar Blade, and Final Fantasy 16. The excitement is palpable, with fans expressing their anticipation and recognizing the game's "immense potential," eager to purchase it upon release.
Tides of Annihilation marks the debut title from Chengdu-based game studio Eclipse Glow Games, blending Arthurian legend with an alternate modern-day London setting. Players will step into the role of Gwendolyn, a survivor navigating an apocalyptic world. While no specific release date has been confirmed, the game is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
