Since *Fields of Mistria* entered Early Access on Steam, the Deep Woods area has been tantalizingly marked on the town map. However, this mystical location remained out of reach until the game's March 2025 update. Let's dive into how to unlock the Deep Woods and discover the whereabouts of Caldarus in *Fields of Mistria*.
How To Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria
To unlock the Deep Woods, you must break the Fire Seal and harness the power of the new Dragon’s Breath spell to burn away the concealing vines. Start by gathering four essential items: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. These can be found between floors 50 and 59 of the mines. To acquire the Sealing Scroll, you'll need to collaborate with Juniper and Balor. Leave the following items in the bin by Balor's wagon:
- x10 Silver Ingots
- x10 Rubies
- x10 Sapphires
- x10 Emeralds
After fulfilling these requirements, speak with Balor, who will inform you that the Sealing Scroll will be available the next day. Once you have all the items, proceed to the Priestess’ Fire Seal altar on Floor 60 of the mines and complete the offering.
Typically, breaking a magic seal results in a few parting words from the mysterious mines Priestess, unlocking a new biome. However, this time, the outcome is unexpected. The Priestess urgently requests you to leave before the Sealing Scroll traps you inside. As your health wanes, Caldarus appears in his human form to rescue you, then retreats to his temple in the Deep Woods to regain his strength.
Caldarus leaves you with the Dragon’s Breath spell, a powerful tool that burns through the vines blocking the Deep Woods entrance. Equip the spell from the pause menu and activate it while standing in front of the entrance to permanently unlock the Deep Woods and other hidden areas on the map.

How To Find Caldarus
After breaking the Fire Seal, you can locate Caldarus in his temple within the Deep Woods. The temple is situated north of the Eastern Road on your map. Use the Dragon’s Breath spell to access this area. Caldarus’ exact location is marked on your map, similar to other NPCs, and you'll find him in the northeast corner of the temple.
To reach Caldarus, enter the Deep Woods, head right, and use your axe to clear the stump blocking your path. Continue north until you reach the temple. Inside, you'll find Caldarus waiting for you.
Once the Deep Woods is unlocked, you can use the Dragon Statue on your farm to fast travel to this area and visit Caldarus at any time. The teleportation costs just 10 Essence, making it a convenient way to save time compared to traveling on foot or horseback.
And don't worry; you can still interact with Caldarus through his statue, even if it's just in spirit.
