The Chinese Room studio has unveiled an exciting new development diary for Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, packed with fresh gameplay footage. The focus of this diary is on how the vampire protagonist will navigate the world of hunting, a key element of the game.
In the Vampire: The Masquerade universe, vampires adhere strictly to the Masquerade, a code that mandates they conceal their true nature from ordinary humans. This principle is mirrored in Bloodlines 2 through a Masquerade meter, which serves as a constant reminder of the actions that threaten to expose the vampire's existence.
Players need to be vigilant about the Masquerade meter, as breaching it triggers three distinct alert levels, visually indicated by an eye icon at the top of the screen:
- Green: Represents a minor violation. Simply hiding from view will suffice to avoid repercussions.
- Yellow: Indicates multiple infractions, feeding, or the use of aggressive powers. At this stage, players must either deal with witnesses discreetly or evade heightened police attention.
- Red: Signifies a severe breach of the Masquerade, with police actively pursuing the player. The best course of action here is to flee and find a safe place to hide. If the meter reaches its maximum, the Camarilla will intervene, as illustrated in the gameplay clip provided.
To mitigate their "infamy" and lower the Masquerade meter, players have a few options at their disposal. They can manipulate witnesses to forget the incident or, if necessary, eliminate them. If the police become involved, the most straightforward strategy is to hide and wait until the situation cools down.
The developers have assured that the stakes of maintaining the Masquerade will escalate as players progress through the game. To successfully uphold the Masquerade, players must act with speed and decisiveness, making every decision crucial in preserving the secrecy of the vampire world.
