Clash Royale heads back to the past with new (yet old) Retro Royale mode

Author : Victoria Mar 17,2025

Clash Royale is throwing it back to 2017 with the new Retro Royale Mode! Available for a limited time only, from March 12th to 26th, this exciting mode offers fresh rewards. Climb the 30-step ladder to earn Gold and Season Tokens.

Supercell’s continued success stems from consistently refreshing its top games, as seen recently with the removal of Troop Training times in Clash of Clans. Now, Clash Royale joins the party, celebrating its anniversary by taking players on a trip back to its 2017 launch!

The Retro Royale mode, showcased in a recent trailer, recreates the original game's meta and card pool. From March 12th to 26th, you'll battle with a curated selection of 80 cards, ascending the Retro Ladder for exclusive rewards. Earn Gold and Season Tokens as you conquer all 30 steps.

The competition intensifies as you climb the ranks. Upon reaching the Competitive League, your starting rank will be determined by your Trophy Road progress. From there, your Retro Royale performance dictates your climb—showcase your timeless Clash Royale skills and dominate the leaderboard!

A Royal Decree of Nostalgia

It’s interesting that I recently discussed Supercell’s commitment to fresh content, only to see a retro mode arrive so soon after. However, there’s a clear distinction between dated and nostalgic. With the enticing rewards on offer, it’s easy to see why fans will eagerly dive into Retro Royale.

And here’s a bonus: compete in both the Retro Ladder and Competitive League (at least once each) to earn a special badge for each!
