While eagerly awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many are revisiting the classic DOOM games. Good news! A recent update for the DOOM + DOOM 2 compilation has significantly enhanced the experience.
This update boasts improved technical performance and more. Crucially, it now supports multiplayer modifications created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. Cooperative play is enhanced with shared item pickup and an observer mode for players awaiting revival. Multiplayer network code has also received optimization. Finally, the mod loader now supports more than the initial 100+ subscribed mods.
Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a key focus. The game will offer unprecedented customization options, exceeding those found in previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton highlighted the team's commitment to broad accessibility.
Players will have granular control over enemy damage, difficulty, projectile speed, enemy health, and other parameters like game pace, enemy aggression, and parry timing. Stratton further confirmed that prior DOOM experience isn't required to understand the narratives of DOOM: The Dark Ages and its connection to DOOM: Eternal.
