Cyberpunk 2077's development history includes an ambitious, now-canceled, lunar DLC. Dataminer SirMZK unearthed compelling evidence from the game's code, revealing CD Projekt RED's extensive plans for this space-faring expansion.
Game files contain references to lunar surface maps, distinct zones like an "Exterior Movie Set" and a "Drug Lab," and even a rover model. The scale was breathtaking; the Moon location was planned to be a massive, open-world area, potentially a quarter the size of Night City itself. This would have dramatically expanded the gameplay, transporting players far beyond the familiar neon-drenched streets.
A key element was the "Crystal Palace," an elite space station. While cut from the final game, players can briefly see it in one ending sequence viewed from a spaceship window. Further leaks reveal a prototype zero-gravity bar connected to a removed quest, "201," linked to the Arasaka storyline.
Hope remains that some of these concepts might reappear in CD Projekt RED's upcoming "Orion" project, an expansion of the Cyberpunk universe. However, the studio hasn't officially confirmed the reuse of these assets.
Though the Moon DLC remains unrealized, the discovered details offer a captivating glimpse into what could have been: a daring expansion of Cyberpunk 2077 into the cosmos, seamlessly blending space exploration with the game's signature cyberpunk style.
