Conquering Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide
One of the initial hurdles in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the battle against Zhang Jiao, leader of the Yellow Turbans. This guide details strategies for victory.
Phase 1: A One-on-One Duel
This phase unfolds in a large, open arena. Zhang Jiao employs sorcery, launching projectiles at you. His attacks vary based on your distance:
- Close Range: Four stones are summoned, demanding swift evasion.
- Long Range: Eight stones are launched in pairs, easily dodged by circling him.
Maintain a safe distance when he summons numerous stones to avoid heavy damage. While primarily a ranged fighter, Zhang Jiao possesses close-combat combos (parriable) and an area-of-effect (AOE) pushback attack. A white glow precedes his AOE; evade accordingly.
Later, he unleashes unblockable attacks (red aura), including a massive rockfall and clone summoning. The best approach is to retreat and wait for the attack to conclude. A sword is recommended for optimal damage output compared to spears or gauntlets.
Resource Management is Crucial: Your healing capacity is limited (likely four uses depending on skill upgrades). Meat buns are strategically placed near the arena entrance; utilize these for healing during breaks in combat.
Phase 2: Aided Assault
Activating Musou Rage initiates Phase 2, bringing Yellow Turban reinforcements. Fortunately, your army joins the fight, providing respite. This is an ideal time to replenish health using the meat buns. Zhang Jiao introduces tornados as a disruptive element; be mindful of the wind currents while eliminating his troops.
Zhang Jiao will attempt a "Grand Tactic," requiring you to defeat 300 soldiers within a short timeframe. Failure results in a devastating attack. Simultaneously, lightning strikes will appear, indicated by a closing ring on the ground; evade when the ring flashes. Musou Mode (basic, not Rage) is efficient for clearing large numbers of soldiers quickly.
Successfully countering the Grand Tactic twice brings Zhang Jiao back into direct combat, using the same tactics as Phase 1. With your army's support, defeating him should be straightforward, concluding Chapter 1.
Victory Achieved:
By following these strategies, you can successfully defeat Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, currently available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
