Rockstar's latest update to Grand Theft Auto 5, known as GTA 5 Enhanced, hit Steam on March 4, but it hasn't been the hit Rockstar might have hoped for. With a 'mixed' user review rating, where only 54% of the 19,772 reviews are positive, it's clear that many players are not thrilled. This is a stark contrast to the original GTA 5 on Steam, which boasts a 'very positive' rating despite being unlisted and not searchable.
Interestingly, GTA 5 Enhanced is now the least favorably reviewed GTA title on Steam, even falling below Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition, which sits at 66% positive reviews.
The Enhanced version brings new features from the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S editions of GTA Online to PC, such as access to Hao’s Special Works for vehicles and performance upgrades, animal encounters, and the chance to buy a GTA+ Membership. It also promises better graphics and quicker load times. Best of all, it's a free upgrade for existing PC owners of GTA 5, who can also transfer their Story Mode and Online progress.

However, the upgrade process has been anything but smooth. Many players are struggling with account migration issues, which are a common theme among the negative reviews. One frustrated user shared, "The GTA Online profile associated with this Rockstar Games account is not eligible for migration at this time," and went on to express their disappointment strongly, suggesting they'd stick with the older version until the next game arrives.
Another user highlighted the arbitrary nature of the migration eligibility, saying, "I'm leaving a negative review mainly due to Rockstar deciding that some accounts should arbitrarily not be able to migrate, and if you ask for help from support, they just say they can't do anything about it."
The sentiment is echoed by others unable to transfer their accounts, criticizing Rockstar's support as unhelpful and expressing reluctance to start over for minor updates.
Despite these challenges, GTA 5 Enhanced continues to draw crowds on Steam, reaching a peak of 187,059 concurrent players. However, the launch troubles have raised flags among the PC gaming community, especially with the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6, set for fall 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, with PC gamers left waiting. A former Rockstar developer has asked PC fans to remain patient and give the studio the benefit of the doubt regarding the staggered release.
