Jason Momoa, renowned for his role as Aquaman in the former DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to take on the character of Lobo in the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, slated for release in June 2026. Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, possesses superhuman strength and immortality. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983 and shares the tragic fate of being the last survivor of his now-extinct world, much like Superman.
Momoa, who has long expressed his admiration for Lobo and cited aesthetic similarities between himself and the character, shared his excitement and nervousness about taking on the role. In a conversation with ScreenRant, he hinted at a brief but impactful appearance in the movie, saying, "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play. That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool." Momoa also confirmed that his screen time would be limited, stating, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."
The film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is heavily inspired by the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, portrayed by Eve Ridley, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills, played by Matthias Schoenaerts. The cast also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El and Emily Beecham as her mother.
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, although it did not reveal much about the character. Gunn announced on Bluesky that filming had begun for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, featuring Milly Alcock, known for her role in House of the Dragon, as Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be the second film in the new DCU, following James Gunn's Superman, which is set to premiere in the summer of 2026. Another DCU film, Clayface, is scheduled for release in September 2026.
