Keanu Reeves has delivered the most exciting update yet on the long-awaited sequel to the 2005 cult classic, Constantine. The actor, who portrayed the iconic occult detective and exorcist John Constantine in the original film, has now confirmed that a script for Constantine 2 is in the works. This news comes after over two decades of fans clamoring for a follow-up, especially since Reeves himself has expressed enthusiasm about revisiting the character.
In a recent interview with Inverse, Reeves revealed that he and the team have been attempting to bring Constantine 2 to life for over a decade. Their latest efforts included a successful pitch to DC Studios. "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay,’" Reeves stated. "So, we're going to try and write a script."

While this development is promising, it's important to note that there's no guarantee that Constantine 2 will be greenlit by DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran. The sequel is not currently listed as a confirmed project in the rebooted DCU, nor has it been mentioned by Gunn or Safran as a potential addition. Thus, the project remains on the edge of possibility.
Reeves also teased that if Constantine 2 does come to fruition, it will be set in the same universe as the original film. "We're not going off that," he assured fans, before humorously adding, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."
This update follows comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who, in a September interview with ComicBook, mentioned that a script for Constantine 2 was already in his inbox. However, he admitted to being too apprehensive to read it due to his high hopes for the project. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough," di Bonaventura said. "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
