Legendary Entertainment's new Street Fighter movie has found its director: Kitao Sakurai, the creative force behind the comedic masterpiece The Eric Andre Show. This marks another attempt to bring the iconic fighting game franchise to the silver screen, following the much-loved (though initially panned) 1994 adaptation.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Capcom is heavily involved in this new adaptation, which is slated for release on March 20, 2026. While casting details remain under wraps, fans can anticipate appearances from their favorite Street Fighter characters.
The project initially saw Danny and Michael Philippou (directors of Talk to Me) attached, but they left last summer. Sakurai's involvement suggests a potential shift towards a more absurdist, perhaps even cartoonish, interpretation of the Street Fighter universe. This approach could be a welcome change for fans who appreciate the game's over-the-top style.
In the meantime, players can dive into the latest installment, Street Fighter 6, recently enhanced with the addition of Mai Shiranui. Read our comprehensive Street Fighter 6 review for a deeper dive.
