The iconic Master Chief, star of the Halo series and a popular Fortnite skin, recently returned to the item shop after a two-year hiatus, much to the delight of fans. However, this joyous reunion was briefly marred by a controversy.
Originally, a special Matte Black style for the skin was offered exclusively to players on Xbox Series S|X consoles. For a considerable period, Epic Games advertised this style as permanently obtainable. The unexpected announcement of its removal, therefore, caused significant backlash.
Some players even considered legal action, threatening a class-action lawsuit, believing the change violated existing agreements. However, Epic Games quickly reversed course within 24 hours. The Matte Black style is now available to all Master Chief skin owners who play a single match on an Xbox Series S|X console.
This reversal is widely seen as the best outcome. Given the holiday season and the festive spirit of Christmas, such a contentious move would have undoubtedly soured the experience for many players.
