Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision on mid-season player rank resets following significant player feedback. Read on for details about the changes and upcoming updates.
Marvel Rivals Reverses Mid-Season Rank Reset Plan
Dev Talk 11: Seasonal Rank Adjustments Revised
Marvel Rivals has retracted its previously announced mid-season rank reset after a wave of player complaints. The official Marvel Rivals Twitter (X) account issued a new update (Dev Talk 11), directly addressing concerns raised after Dev Talk 10, which detailed a plan to reset player ranks, dropping them four divisions. Players criticized this system, arguing it was discouraging, especially for those actively climbing the ranks, particularly with the proposed 45-day (half-season) reset frequency.
Dev Talk 11 confirms that the mid-season rank reset is canceled. Players will retain their existing rank and score from the first half of the season. However, the end-of-season rank reset will still occur, dropping players six divisions.
Human Torch, The Thing, and Other Updates Remain on Track
Despite the reversal on the mid-season reset, other planned updates remain unchanged. The release of new heroes Human Torch and The Thing is still proceeding, bringing the total roster to 39 heroes. NetEase Games previously stated their intention to release two new playable characters per season, with each season spanning three months.
Rewards for players reaching Gold rank and above remain unchanged. Players achieving Gold rank or higher before the update will receive a free Invisible Woman costume. Grandmaster and above will receive Crests of Honor. New rewards for reaching Gold rank at the end of the season will also include a free costume, with Crests of Honor for Grandmaster and above.
Balance adjustments were also previously announced for this mid-season update; however, specific details are yet to be revealed.
Marvel Rivals Community Response and Engagement
The swift response to player feedback is noteworthy. Marvel Rivals addressed the backlash to Dev Talk 10 within hours, publishing Dev Talk 11 to announce the change. The developers emphasized their commitment to listening to player concerns, stating, "We strive to make Marvel Rivals the best game it can be, and the community is the driving force behind this mission! [...] Your engagement and support mean the world to us, and we're excited to continue this journey together!"
The Marvel Rivals mid-season update is scheduled for February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Visit our Marvel Rivals page for the latest game information.
