During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled exciting news for fans: nearly the entire catalog of Nintendo Switch games will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Moreover, a select group of beloved titles will receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, packed with unique features. The games getting this special treatment include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
Each of these upgraded versions comes with distinct enhancements tailored to the game. Kicking off the showcase, Super Mario Party: Jamboree introduces "Jamboree TV," which enhances the experience with mouse controls, audio recognition, "more expressive rumble," and innovative gameplay utilizing a new camera accessory.
Following this, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are set to receive boosts in resolution and framerate, alongside HDR support. Additionally, they will benefit from a new feature within the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes. This service will provide voice guidance to help players locate Shrines and Koroks and allow them to share their creations in Tears of the Kingdom using QR codes with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is not left behind, as it will feature an exclusive new story called Star-Crossed World, available only on the Nintendo Switch 2, along with improved graphics and framerates.
Two highly anticipated titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, are also getting the upgrade treatment. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls and boast 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will enhance resolution and framerates.
These upgraded versions will be available in both physical and digital formats. Additionally, for those who already own the original versions on the Nintendo Switch, upgrade packs will be available for purchase for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby.

Later in the presentation, third-party titles also received attention, with Civilization 7 and Street Fighter 6 getting Nintendo Switch 2 Editions. Civilization 7 will include mouse support, and Street Fighter 6 will feature Switch 2-exclusive game modes.
Nintendo had hinted at these "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games last week through a small footnote on their newly-announced Virtual Game Card system webpage, which mentioned that these editions cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Card.
