The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be part of its competitive circuit in the near future. Delve into the details surrounding Pokémon TCG Pocket's exclusion from the competitive scene and explore the potential reasons behind this decision.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet
No Plans For Competitive Pocket
At present, there are no plans to integrate Pokémon TCG Pocket into the Pokémon competitive circuit. Chris Brown, the Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, shared in a February 25, 2025 interview with VGC that while they continuously evaluate various titles for inclusion, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not on the immediate horizon.
In a light-hearted moment, Brown mentioned "Pokemon Sleep is out there too," referencing a humorous April Fool's parody trailer for a Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament. However, he clarified, "But at this time there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."
Too Early And Unbalanced
While no official reasons have been given for the exclusion of Pokémon TCG Pocket from the competitive scene, fans have their theories. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its nascent stage with only two sets released to date.
Although Pokémon TCG Pocket includes competitive elements within the app from the start, the community has called for improvements to address ongoing balance issues. Compared to the traditional Pokémon Trading Card Game, Pokémon TCG Pocket is designed to be more accessible and beginner-friendly, suggesting that fostering a competitive environment is not its main focus.
Nevertheless, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit remains vibrant, offering numerous events across titles like Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all set to feature at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
