Final Fantasy XIV Suspends Housing Demolitions Due to California Wildfires

Square Enix has temporarily halted automatic housing demolition timers in Final Fantasy XIV on North American servers due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. This affects players on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers.

The suspension, implemented on January 9th, comes just one day after the company resumed the auto-demolition process following a previous pause related to Hurricane Helene's aftermath. The 45-day demolition timer, designed to free up housing plots from inactive players, is currently frozen. However, players can still reset their timers by logging into their homes.

Square Enix cited the Los Angeles wildfires as the reason for this unexpected pause, stating they will monitor the situation and provide an update on when the timers will be reactivated. This action echoes previous temporary suspensions implemented in response to real-world events impacting player accessibility.

The impact of the wildfires extends beyond the game, with other events such as the Critical Role campaign finale and an NFL playoff game being affected. The current situation adds to a busy start to 2025 for Final Fantasy XIV players, who also recently benefited from a free login campaign. The duration of this latest housing demolition suspension remains undetermined.
