In Hyper Light Breaker, choosing the right weapon is crucial for crafting an effective build. You'll start with basic loadouts, but as you delve deeper into the game, you'll discover a variety of weapons that align perfectly with your preferred playstyle.
Hyper Light Breaker combines elements of roguelikes and extraction games, offering a unique twist on weapon acquisition. Here's how you can arm yourself with new weapons to enhance your gameplay experience.
Where to Get New Weapons in Hyper Light Breaker
One of the primary methods to acquire new gear is by exploring Overgrowths. As you navigate the world during a run, you'll naturally encounter new items. If you're specifically hunting for weapons, keep an eye out for the sword and pistol icons on the map, which denote Blades and Rails, respectively.
Blades are your go-to melee weapons, each featuring unique movesets and special abilities. On the other hand, Rails are ranged weapons, distinguished by their diverse functions. Both types come in various rarities, with gold being the rarest and typically boasting superior stats, as is customary in loot-based games.
When you find a weapon in an Overgrowth, you have the option to send it directly to your personal stash by selecting the Cache button instead of Equip. You can then equip these weapons for your next run by adjusting your loadout before setting out.
How to Get New Starting Weapons
Beyond acquiring weapons during runs, you can also purchase new starting gear from merchants at the Cursed Outpost. Initially, you'll only have access to the Blades merchant. To unlock the Rails merchant, you'll need to gather sufficient materials to repair their shop.
Keep in mind that the merchants have a limited stock, which refreshes over time. If you don't find what you're looking for on your first visit, it's worth checking back later to see what new items are available.
How to Upgrade Weapons
To enhance your weapons, you'll need to upgrade them at the merchants in the Outpost. However, before you can access the Upgrade feature, you must increase your affinity with the merchants. This can be achieved by collecting Golden Rations, a scarce resource found through world exploration or cycle resets. Given their rarity, it's wise to use Golden Rations judiciously.
Be aware that if you die, each equipped piece of gear will lose one pip of durability, indicated by the bar beneath their icons. Repeated deaths can lead to your gear breaking, so tread carefully and manage your resources effectively.
