Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Surpasses 200,000 Units Sold, Proving a Resurgence for the Classic Action Title
Released late last year, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has reportedly exceeded 200,000 units sold, demonstrating strong player demand for this action-packed remaster. Despite initial technical hiccups and controversy surrounding censorship, the game's sales figures highlight its enduring appeal.
Developed originally by Grasshopper Manufacture (known for titles like No More Heroes), Lollipop Chainsaw is a vibrant hack-and-slash game where players wield a chainsaw as a cheerleader battling zombies. While the original developers didn't helm the remaster, Dragami Games delivered a visually enhanced version with improved gameplay features.
Now, months after its September 2024 launch across current and last-gen consoles, and PC, Dragami Games announced the impressive sales milestone via a tweet.
Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's Triumphant Sales Figures
The game casts players as Juliet Starling, a San Romero High cheerleader who uncovers her zombie-hunting heritage when her school is overrun. Players engage in thrilling chainsaw combat against hordes of zombies and unique bosses, offering a gameplay experience reminiscent of Bayonetta and other iconic third-person action games.
The original Lollipop Chainsaw, released in 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, achieved even greater success, selling over a million copies. Its popularity likely stemmed from the unique collaboration between Goichi Suda, a renowned game designer, and James Gunn, the acclaimed director of Guardians of the Galaxy, who contributed to the game's narrative.
While future DLC or a sequel remains unannounced, the success of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP bodes well for remasters of other cult classic games. This positive reception follows the recent release of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, another Grasshopper Manufacture title updated for modern platforms.
