Mastering Rune Slayer's Fishing Mechanics: A Comprehensive Guide
If you're wondering whether Rune Slayer qualifies as an MMORPG, the presence of fishing should settle that debate. This guide will walk you through the surprisingly non-intuitive fishing system.

Screenshot by The EscapistBefore you cast your line, initiate the fishing quest with Simon the Fisherman (the white-haired NPC near the Barracuda's swimming area). He requests 5 "fish" in exchange for a Tackle Box (the reason for the quotation marks will become clear).
To successfully complete this quest, you'll need a fishing rod and bait. Conveniently, Simon sells both.
Screenshot by The EscapistPurchase a Wood Fishing Rod and at least 5 Worms (10 is recommended). Crucially, you don't equip the bait; it simply needs to be in your inventory. Each successful catch (or junk) consumes one Worm. A minimum of 5 Worms seems necessary for catches to occur. Keeping your Worms in your hotbar aids inventory management.
The Fishing Process
Gif by The EscapistSelect your Wood Fishing Rod (no equipping needed; just place it in your hotbar). Hold M1 to cast your line into the water (the pier near Simon is ideal).
Watch the bobber; when it ripples (once or twice), click M1 again to reel in your catch. Note: This isn't foolproof; many casts yield nothing, or junk items. Fortunately, Simon counts junk as a successful catch.
