Robert Eggers Set to Helm Labyrinth Sequel

Author : David Apr 19,2025

Director Robert Eggers is set to enchant audiences once again, this time by crafting a sequel to the cherished 1986 dark fantasy film, *Labyrinth*. Following the success of his gothic horror masterpiece, *Nosferatu*, Eggers will now delve into the whimsical yet shadowy world first created by Jim Henson. In the original *Labyrinth*, David Bowie captivated audiences as the enigmatic Goblin King Jareth, who kidnaps the protagonist's baby brother, leading to an epic journey through a fantastical realm filled with Henson's iconic puppets.

Variety has confirmed that Eggers will take on both writing and directing duties for this much-anticipated sequel, collaborating once more with Sjón, his partner from *The Northman*. Previously, *Sinister* director Scott Derrickson was attached to a *Labyrinth* sequel, but with no developments since 2023, TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have chosen to entrust this magical project to Eggers.

In addition to the *Labyrinth* sequel, Eggers is also embarking on a thrilling new project titled *Werwulf*, a werewolf movie slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Set in 13th century England, the film promises to use Old English dialogue, offering a unique historical twist on the classic monster genre. While details are sparse, it's safe to assume that transformations into wolf-like creatures will play a central role in this chilling tale.

Eggers' most recent release, *Nosferatu*, premiered last Christmas to critical acclaim. This film, a remake of the 1922 silent classic by F.W. Murnau, transports viewers to 19th century Germany, where a young real estate agent's trip to Transylvania unleashes vampiric horrors upon his life and that of his wife Ellen. *Nosferatu* has garnered significant attention, receiving four Oscar nominations for Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling.
