Behind-The-Scenes Of Infinity NikkiA Sneak Peek Into Miraland

Much-anticipated fashion-focused open-world Infinity Nikki arrives this December 4th (EST/PST), and it released a brief 25-minute documentary celebrating years of work, and showcasing the dedication poured into completing the game through interviews with key team members.

Infinity Nikki started in December 2019 when the Nikki series’ producer approached Chief Technology Officer Fei Ge and expressed interest in creating an open-world game where Nikki is “freely exploring and adventuring.” The project was initially kept secret, including renting a separate office to work discreetly. “Then we gradually recruited and assembled our initial team, developing ideas, laying the foundation and building the infrastructure. We continued this way for over a year.”

Game developer Sha Dingyu shared that they found their work novel in integrating the Nikki IP and its core dress-up mechanics with an open-world design, calling the process demanding, requiring a framework built from the ground up after years of study.

Despite the difficulties, the team wholeheartedly embraced bringing this game to life. The Nikki franchise began as a mobile game series, starting with NikkuUp2U in 2012. Infinity Nikki is its fifth entry, and the first on PC and console alongside mobile. Ge acknowledged they could have made another mobile game, but the team was committed to “achieving a technological and product enhancement,” driven by a desire for advancement and the evolution of the Nikki IP. Their devotion was such that their producer sculpted a miniature Grand Millewish Tree from clay to further realize the vision. While not a precise replica, it embodies the passion the producer, and his colleagues, have for the game.

The video also shows glimpses of the stunning landscapes players will explore in Miraland, Infinity Nikki's setting. It highlights the Grand Millewish Tree, a magical tree home to the charming Faewish Sprites, and its surroundings. Miraland's inhabitants are vibrant, going about their daily lives, like children playing a magical hopscotch game. Game designer Xiao Li cited a design highlight: NPCs maintain their routines even during Nikki's missions, creating a more dynamic, realistic world.

A Star-Studded Cast

It is no wonder that one can tell how stunning the game is just from its promotional material and how refined it looks—besides the main Nikki series team that has been more or less familiar with the IP since its early days, the Infinity Nikki team has also hired overseas talent who are equally experienced. Firstly, Infinity Nikki’s Lead Sub Director is Kentaro “Tomiken” Tominaga, an experienced game designer who also worked on the acclaimed Switch title, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. They also have concept artist Andrzej Dybowski on board as well, who also contributed his remarkable skills to another equally acclaimed game, The Witcher 3.

Since the official start of the game’s development last December 28th, 2019, it would have taken the team 1814 full days until its upcoming grand launch on December 4th, 2024. Anticipation is at a fever pitch as the release date draws near. Get ready to embark on a journey through Miraland with Nikki and her trusty best friend, Momo, this coming December!
