Housemarque Unveils Saros, a New PS5 Title for 2026
Following the success of 2022's Returnal, Housemarque has announced its next project: Saros. Starring Rahul Kohli, this new single-player action title is slated for a 2026 release on PlayStation 5, with enhanced features for the PS5 Pro.
Showcased during the recent PlayStation State of Play, Saros retains the signature Housemarque style. Players take on the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer investigating a perilous, ever-changing planet shrouded in eclipse and guarded by formidable entities. The game's emphasis on "coming back stronger" and its fiery, bullet-hell combat strongly suggest a roguelite structure reminiscent of Returnal.
Creative director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-focused design philosophy. While a fresh IP, it builds upon the third-person action mechanics established in Returnal.
However, Saros introduces significant gameplay differences. According to Louden's PlayStation Blog post, a key departure from Returnal lies in its system of permanent progression. While the game world dynamically alters upon player death, players will retain and upgrade their weapons and suits permanently.
Further details and an extended gameplay showcase are promised later this year. For a complete rundown of the PlayStation State of Play announcements, check out our comprehensive recap.
