Rebel Wolves, a studio comprised of former CD Projekt Red developers, is aiming for Witcher 3-level quality with their debut title, The Blood of Dawnwalker, a vampire RPG. Despite being a smaller-scale project, the team's ambition is high. Let's delve into the details.
A Focused, High-Quality Experience
In an interview with GamesRadar, Creative Director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz clarified the game's scope. While acknowledging the studio's size and the fact that this is their first game, he emphasized their commitment to AAA quality. He stated that their benchmark for quality is The Witcher 3.
The team at Rebel Wolves boasts extensive experience, having worked on both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. The studio's founding was driven by a desire for increased creative freedom, a freedom not always available within larger AAA studios.
Tomaszkiewicz explained that while the game's overall content might be smaller than a typical AAA title, they are aiming for a tightly-crafted, high-quality experience. The planned campaign length is 30-40 hours, a duration he argues is not inherently indicative of a game's quality or classification. He points out that many AAA titles, such as Call of Duty, don't offer 100+ hour campaigns.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is a narrative-driven, open-world dark fantasy RPG set in Vale Sangora. Players assume the role of Coen, a peasant imbued with vampiric powers, who embarks on a quest to save his sister.
Currently, there's no official release date, but the game is planned for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a gameplay reveal expected in Summer 2025.
