Monster Hunter Wilds Lowers the Bar for PC Players
Console Performance Goals Unveiled
Good news for PS5 Pro owners! *Monster Hunter Wilds* will receive a day-one patch optimizing the game for this console. This announcement, made during a December 19th livestream featuring director Yuya Tokuda, followed the conclusion of the Open Beta Test (OBT).The livestream detailed console performance targets: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will offer "Prioritize Graphics" (4K, 30fps) and "Prioritize Framerate" (1080p, 60fps) modes. Xbox Series S will run natively at 1080p, 30fps. A rendering bug affecting the framerate mode has been squashed, resulting in improved performance.
While enhanced visuals are promised for PS5 Pro, specific performance details remain undisclosed for now.
PC players can expect performance to vary widely based on their hardware and in-game settings. While minimum specs were previously announced, Capcom confirmed they're working to reduce these requirements for broader accessibility. Further details and possibly a PC benchmark tool are forthcoming.
A Second Open Beta Test?
Capcom hinted at a possible second open beta test, primarily to give those who missed the first a chance to play. However, any changes discussed in the recent livestream will only be implemented in the final release, not the potential second beta.
The livestream also covered refinements to hitstop and sound effects for a more impactful feel, friendly fire mitigation, and weapon adjustments, with particular attention given to the Insect Glaive, Switch Axe, and Lance.
Monster Hunter Wilds launches February 28th, 2025, on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
