Insomniac Games, renowned for their creative endeavors, had a strong desire to develop Resistance 4, but unfortunately, the project never received the green light. As Ted Price, the founder and outgoing president of Insomniac Games, steps into retirement after an impressive 30-year tenure, he shared insights into this unfulfilled project during a recent interview with Kinda Funny Games. When asked about a favorite game concept that was pitched but never came to fruition, Price revealed, "Yeah, I’ll share one. Resistance 4."
According to Price, the team at Insomniac was passionate about expanding the Resistance universe. He explained, "We did pitch that one and it was a wonderful concept, and it just in terms of timing and market opportunity, didn’t work out." The team's enthusiasm stemmed from the series' unique alternate history setting, which offered endless possibilities for storytelling involving the alien Chimera and their mysterious origins.
The Resistance series, a trilogy of first-person shooters developed by Insomniac, followed their successful Ratchet and Clank games. Set in an alternate history where aliens invade the UK in 1951, the series captivated players across three titles released for the PlayStation 3. After concluding the Resistance saga, Insomniac shifted focus to other notable projects, including Marvel’s Spider-Man and new iterations of Ratchet and Clank.
Earlier this year, Price announced his retirement from Insomniac Games, marking the end of an era. He has appointed Chad Dezern, Ryan Schneider, and Jen Huang as Co-Studio Heads to lead the studio into its next chapter. Insomniac's most recent release, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, has just been made available on PC, and the studio is currently working on Marvel’s Wolverine, eagerly anticipated by fans.
