Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Boasts Impressive Performance on Consoles

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) is poised to deliver a strong performance across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms, showcasing impressive adaptability across various settings. Read on to explore KCD2's performance capabilities on each platform and the customization options available to players.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2: Performance Across Platforms

Photorealistic Visuals Powered by CryEngine

Early tests and reports indicate excellent performance for KCD2 across different platforms. PlayStation and Xbox consoles smoothly handle both 30fps and 60fps options, with the PS5 Pro demonstrating enhanced graphical capabilities. KCD2's unique photorealistic rendering, achieved through the use of CryTek's CryEngine, sets it apart from many other titles.

Warhorse Studios' continued use of CryEngine, following its success with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 1 (KCD1), leverages their existing expertise and allows for significant feature enhancements in the sequel. PC Gamer highlights CryEngine's distinct approach, emphasizing performance through a more traditional rendering technique with limited shaders and basic lighting.

Despite this "old-school" approach, KCD2 achieves photorealism through physically based materials. Eurogamer notes that CryEngine's Sparse Voxel Octree Global Illumination (SVOGI) creates realistic indirect lighting, convincingly simulating light bounces from torches, reflections on metal surfaces, and other dynamic lighting interactions.

PlayStation and Xbox Console Options: 30 FPS and 60 FPS Modes

PS5 and Xbox Series X offer two modes: a Fidelity mode (30fps at 1440p) prioritizing visual fidelity, and a Performance mode (60fps at 1080p) prioritizing frame rate. Xbox Series S exclusively offers Fidelity mode. Conversely, the PS5 Pro runs at a default 60fps at 1296p, upscaling to 4K using PSSR.

Fidelity mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X enhances visuals with increased foliage detail and improved shadow casting across terrains. This significantly boosts the quality of outdoor scenes and ambient occlusion. The PS5 Pro further elevates these features, adding sharper visuals, superior ambient occlusion, enhanced object quality, and overall improved image quality.

PC: Customizable Upscaling and Extensive Settings

True to PC gaming tradition, KCD2 offers fully customizable upscaling options. PC Gamer notes that while options are limited to FSR and DLSS for lower-resolution rendering, XeSS (Intel), sharpening options, and frame generation are absent.

Despite CryEngine's performance focus, running KCD2 at 4K with maximum settings will still demand significant GPU power. However, the game's high scalability provides five quality presets (Low, Medium, High, Ultra, and Experimental) to optimize performance for diverse PC configurations.

KCD2 provides a detailed system readiness guide, assisting players in verifying their system specifications, understanding CPU, RAM, GPU, and storage requirements, and addressing other pre-game considerations.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 launches February 4, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Visit our Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 page for more details.
