ASTRA: Knights of Veda Bids Farewell to English Dubbing
Following a maintenance update scheduled for January 23, 2025, ASTRA: Knights of Veda will be removing its English voice-over option. This decision, announced by developer FLINT on January 20th, aims to enhance game stability and improve the quality of other language localizations.
The January 23rd maintenance will also remove support for German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian voiceovers. While English text will remain, in-game voice acting will default to Japanese for players outside of Korea. FLINT assures players this change won't impact in-game chat functionality in any previously supported language.
This move follows a trend among gacha games. Several titles, including War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Aether Gazer, and Snowbreak: Containment Zone, have also reduced or eliminated English voice-over support. Reasons cited often include prioritizing the language preferred by the majority of players and managing the long-term costs associated with voice acting.
The developers' decision, while potentially disappointing to some English-speaking players, reflects a broader industry trend toward optimizing resource allocation and focusing on the languages most frequently used by their player base. FLINT has committed to continuing to improve the overall player experience.
The shift towards Japanese voice-overs in these games highlights the complex balancing act between providing a localized experience and the financial realities of long-term game development and maintenance.
