Bloodborne Fans Celebrate 10th Anniversary, Push for Sequel and Next-Gen Update

Author : Christian Apr 24,2025

Today marks the 10th anniversary of *Bloodborne*, and the gaming community is buzzing with excitement as they launch another "Return to Yharnam" event. Released on March 24, 2015, by FromSoftware for the PlayStation 4, *Bloodborne* has not only garnered critical and commercial success but also solidified FromSoftware's reputation as a premier game developer. The game's impact was so profound that fans eagerly anticipated a sequel or at least a remaster or next-gen update that would bring it to 60fps. However, despite the constant clamor from fans, Sony has remained silent on the matter, leaving many puzzled by this business decision.

Earlier this year, Shuhei Yoshida, a former PlayStation executive, offered some insight into the situation during an interview with Kinda Funny Games. Yoshida emphasized that his comments were purely speculative and not based on any insider knowledge. He suggested that Hidetaka Miyazaki, the head of FromSoftware and the mastermind behind *Bloodborne*, might be too busy with other projects to oversee a remaster or sequel himself, and unwilling to let anyone else handle it. Yoshida theorized that Sony respects Miyazaki's wishes, which could explain the lack of updates.

Miyazaki has indeed been busy since *Bloodborne*, directing *Dark Souls 3*, *Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice*, and the blockbuster hit *Elden Ring*. His involvement in these projects, along with running FromSoftware, leaves little room for revisiting *Bloodborne*. Additionally, Miyazaki has often pointed out that FromSoftware does not own the *Bloodborne* IP, which complicates matters. However, he did acknowledge last year that the game would benefit from being updated for modern hardware.

In the absence of official updates, fans and modders have taken matters into their own hands. Efforts like the 60fps mod by Lance McDonald and the creative projects of Lilith Walther, such as *Nightmare Kart* and the *Bloodborne PSX demake*, have faced resistance from Sony, with takedown notices issued. Meanwhile, breakthroughs in PS4 emulation, as showcased by Digital Foundry's coverage of ShadPS4, have allowed *Bloodborne* to be played at 60fps on PC, prompting speculation about Sony's response.

As Sony remains tight-lipped, *Bloodborne* fans continue to celebrate the game through community events like "Return to Yharnam." Today's event, coinciding with the game's 10th anniversary, encourages players to start fresh characters, engage with the community through co-op and invasions, and share their experiences online. While fans hold out hope for official updates, these community-driven initiatives might be the closest they get to new *Bloodborne* content.
