Elden Ring: Nightreign will omit the in-game messaging feature previously seen in FromSoftware titles. Project director Junya Ishizaki explained this decision in a recent interview, citing the game's approximately forty-minute play sessions as too short for players to effectively leave or read messages. Ishizaki stated, "With sessions lasting roughly forty minutes, there isn't enough time to send your own messages or read other people's messages, therefore we disabled the messaging feature."
This change is notable given the prominent role messaging has played in enhancing player interaction and enjoyment within past FromSoftware games. However, the development team felt the feature wasn't suitable for Nightreign's design.
To preserve the integrity of the original Elden Ring, Nightreign features a separate narrative. The game promises a fresh adventure filled with unique challenges and encounters, while retaining the atmosphere and complexity characteristic of the Elden Ring world.
